I received a PhD in clinical psychology from Hofstra University in 1981 and soon began developing the first health information technology that uses common off-the-shelf software tools in innovative ways to:
• Manage a lifetime of physical and psychological (biopsychosocial) health data
• Build and deliver actionable information and guidance to clinicians and healthcare consumers/patients
• Increase the value of healthcare by growing and sharing evidence-based knowledge focused on understanding and caring for the whole-person.
My company has developed innovative software systems that provide evidence-based decision support, outcomes assessment, and knowledge management, as well as enabling widespread collaboration through the exchange of comprehensive health information and analytic models.
Our most recent activities focus on the RevealMyWay™ well-being project and well-being enhancement tools. This integrated set of software tools consists of personal assessments and personalized guides constructed to help people increase their sense of well-being by lessening unpleasant experiences and increasing pleasant ones with a clear purpose. It does this by providing unparalleled self-insights, knowledge, and structured guidance for making informed decisions and taking effective action.
These software tools proved very useful to my clients and myself during the two decades I provided psychotherapy. They have continued to evolve through worldwide collaboration.
One of the tools measures people’s well-being in detail by evaluating 43 situation-specific aspects of well-being grouped into 20 categories. It also explores and discusses how a person’s mental appraisals, core beliefs/perceptions, dysfunctional assumptions, emotional states, coping skills, and spirituality affect one’s well-being.
A second tool guides people in finding ways to enhance their well-being by developing beneficial mindsets and behaviors through the use of problem management strategies the client creates.
The RevealMyWay tools can be used by youth and adults for increasing well-being through self-help. Coaches, counselors, and therapists can also use the tools to aid them in the delivery and continuous quality improvement of their services. The computer-assisted, measurement-based feedback they receive would assist in care delivery across most therapeutic orientations and approaches.
I also write about the positive and negative aspects of human nature, the mind-body connection, the power of mindsets, beliefs, and emotions, the experience of perceived reality, and a scientific view of spirituality.
